Arranging & Orchestration

David has written several symphonic arrangements for one of his heroes, the great Pat Martino  for a concert and recording with full orchestra. Since they began work on the project it became clear that there are several different concepts contained in the overall collaboration. The repertoire will not only reflect some of the great material Pat has covered in his career prior to now but also some of the music he is both writing and performing today.

Pianist Larry Willis is one of David’s longest standing friends form the time he moved to NYC. Larry played on David’d debut CD “The Prize” and word on the street is …they’re talking about two large ensemble projects. Larry is responsible for David being heard in the orchestral world thanks to a Porgy And Bess medley with the Fort Apache Band and The Brooklyn Philharmonic back in 1991!

The Damaronia With Strings recording for Turkish based drummer Ferit Odman that features Terell Stafford, Danny Grissett, Peter Washington along with a great string ensemble led by Antoine Silverman and Diane Monroe. This recording is available as of November 2015 on vinyl, CD and download.

Steve Wilson with Strings Attached features some re-orchestration of the classic Charlie Parker with Strings repertory along with some unrecorded charts that were intended for a third album. The latter arrangements are very interesting because they are jazz composer’s compositions and arrangements as opposed to Great American Songbook selections.

The Lewis Nash/Terumasa Hino Japanese and American all star Big Band featured several arrangements by David for their Japanese tour in November 2011.

Jeremy Pelt‘s “Close To My Heart” album – his debut for MaxJazz back in 2003 featured some string arrangements by David as well as one track on guitar. In April 2014 David and Jeremy will reprise these arrangements in a concert in the magnificent King’s Place in London, UK as part of the Global Music Foundation‘s Spring Festival. This festival is spearheaded by drummer Stephen Keogh who will perform with Jeremy and David in the concert along with a stellar chamber orchestra and rhythm section.
